(Dr. John note: this is a “guest blog post” by Taylor, a Patient and friend of Warford Orthodontics. I think you’ll appreciate hearing his story about how even as an adult the unexpected benefits of orthodontic treatment can be profound. We see this often; our Patient’s teeth straightening can be a “small win” that inspires them to make other positive changes in their lives, as Taylor has figured out. My question for you is this: What’s your possibility?)

I was always told growing up that I  could get braces if I really wanted too, but I didn’t need them. Realizing that it would be strictly discretionary funds, my parents opted to forgo the expense. I never really gave it another thought, because my teeth were “good enough”.

Fast forward through a few states, jobs, and now a family, and I revisited the issue. I worked with many people and models getting them prepared for photo shoots for some of the marketing work I was doing. Most of that work happened to be for an orthodontist, and I began to see a theme. The smiles of these Patients were contagious. Their happiness and confidence after completing treatment went way beyond just straight teeth.  I start to look back at pictures of myself from the last few years, and I realized that I didn’t really smile all that much. I mean, I was and am a happy person, but all my smiles were the closed lip, forced smile type. Needless to say I was inspired.

I talked to Dr. John about what results, if any, I could expect. I mentioned that I was told that I didn’t need braces as a kid, and he informed me that while my teeth weren’t incredibly out of alignment, I would still see a huge difference in my smile. We talked about a few options, and agreed that Invisalign was the right treatment choice for me. I meet with clients all the time, and am frequently in front of people, so I wanted to be a little more discreet.

After beginning treatment 2 months before my 33rd birthday, I wasn’t sure how people would react. Would I get the feeling people thought I was weird? Would I be able to live an adult life? Many thoughts went through my mind for the first few weeks. Turns out, Invisalign is a pretty good option for people that want to be discreet. I can’t think of a single person that has ever mentioned my aligners unless I brought them up. Its great. After a few short weeks I began to see a difference. My teeth were straightening out. It was considerably easier to floss. I even started to smile more.

I think the biggest benefit for me was the increased confidence my “new smile” gave me. I had been stewing for a long time about starting my own business, but never did for some unknown reason. In hindsight, I believe it was my confidence. Going through treatment has contributed to  my confidence so much so, that I finally took the leap and opened up shop. It is a huge step, and a risky one, but thanks to Dr. John and the staff at Warford Orthodontics, I have even more confidence that I will be just as successful in my business as my smile transformation has been.  I still have 2 more months of treatment,  but I can see the results already. Thanks Dr. John!!
